In a fast-paced world where stress and uncertainty often cloud personal growth, Zia Wagner, owner of Inner Alchemy, offers a transformative approach to mindset and confidence coaching. Through a unique blend of mindfulness, nervous system regulation, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Wagner helps her clients slow down, clear their minds, and embrace self-awareness. However, what truly sets her practice apart is her integration of equine-assisted coaching, where her rescue horses and mule become silent yet powerful teachers.
Originally from Hungary, Wagner’s journey has taken her across the world, first as an international model and now as a coach guiding others toward self-discovery. Settling in California with her husband of 14 years, she shares her small ranch with three rescue horses, a rescue mule, three rescue dogs, and a rotation of foster dogs. Her deep connection to animals, particularly horses, has shaped her coaching philosophy, emphasizing presence, emotional intelligence, and the ability to set healthy boundaries.
“Horses provide instant, nonjudgmental feedback,” Wagner explains. “They reflect our energy, intentions, and emotional states in ways that can be deeply revealing. Through interacting with them, clients see themselves more clearly and often uncover patterns they were unaware of.”
Her approach stems from personal experience. Growing up in an environment where vulnerability was not encouraged, Wagner once viewed strength as synonymous with emotional distance. Over time, she learned that true confidence comes from embracing one’s authentic self, including moments of uncertainty and self-doubt. This realization informs her work with clients, many of whom seek to overcome limiting beliefs and reconnect with their inner wisdom.
The concept of equine-assisted coaching is rooted in the natural sensitivity of horses. As prey animals, they are attuned to subtle shifts in energy and body language, making them highly responsive to human emotions. When a person approaches a horse with unresolved tension, insecurity, or hesitation, the horse reacts accordingly—often by mirroring those emotions or refusing to engage. This immediate feedback allows clients to recognize their inner states and adjust in real-time.
Unlike traditional talk therapy or conventional coaching, this method is experiential. Clients may work with the horses on groundwork exercises, such as leading, boundary-setting, or mindful observation. Through these activities, they begin to notice how their posture, breathing, and mindset influence their interactions—not just with the horses, but in all areas of life.
For those unfamiliar with equine-assisted work, the idea of personal transformation through horses may seem unconventional. However, Wagner has witnessed profound shifts in her clients. Individuals struggling with self-doubt find their confidence growing as they successfully communicate with a thousand-pound animal. Those with boundary issues learn to assert themselves, as horses respond best to clear, respectful leadership. The process is both revealing and empowering, allowing clients to step into their own authority.
Beyond her work with equines, Wagner’s coaching incorporates yoga, Aikido, and a deep understanding of nervous system regulation. She has completed 200 hours of yoga teacher training and regularly practices Aikido, a Japanese martial art that emphasizes fluid movement and presence. These disciplines influence her coaching, helping clients cultivate a strong mind-body connection.
“I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all coaching approach,” Wagner says. “Every client comes in with a unique story, a unique energy. My job is to meet them where they are and guide them toward deeper self-awareness. Sometimes, that means slowing down. Other times, it means confronting fears head-on.”
While personal growth often involves deep inner work, Wagner’s clients find that nature—and the presence of animals—offers a grounding and clarifying force. The ranch provides an environment free from digital distractions, where the rhythms of nature encourage reflection and insight. Wagner believes that this reconnection to the natural world plays a vital role in the healing process.
