Attending Springfield College for psychology and Human Services, her passion began long before graduating high school. She interned at Northern Human Services while also completing three years of the Allied Health Technologies program at the Hugh J. Gallen Vocational Center within Littleton High School. Throughout her career, she worked primarily with not-for-profit agencies, including Easter Seals of New Hampshire, Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, and Northern Human Services. These roles allowed Joanna to put patient care above all else, particularly in the underserved areas of mental health and wellness.
In her work with local Federally Qualified Health Centers, such as Ammonoosuc Community Health Services and Coos County Family Health Services, Joanna opened two integrative health clinics. The concept behind these clinics was simple yet powerful: if a person with mental illness felt comfortable visiting their psychologist, they would also feel comfortable seeking preventative care, such as diabetes management, within the same building. The not-for-profit agencies taught Joanna lessons that for-profit companies never did—compassion.
