NYU Langone Health has launched a groundbreaking initiative to transform women’s healthcare with the establishment of the Mignone Women’s Health Collaborative—a $60 million project designed to provide holistic, integrated care to women throughout all stages of life.
The initiative is made possible by a $50 million donation from philanthropists Allison and Roberto Mignone, combined with a $10 million gift from investor Ken Griffin. Spanning more than 20 areas of medical and wellness care, the collaborative will offer services ranging from preventive screenings and pregnancy care to midlife support, fibroid treatment, and aging wellness programs.
Personal Experience Sparks Vision for Change
Allison Mignone’s journey through a serious health battle was the catalyst for the initiative. Diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer three years ago, she received comprehensive treatment at NYU Langone under the care of surgical oncologist Dr. Deborah Axelrod and plastic surgeon Dr. Mihye Choi. Her experience illuminated the disparities and gaps in women’s healthcare, particularly the lack of coordinated, empathetic services.
“Many times, we’re not honest about what we’re experiencing. We’re rushed, we’re overlooked,” Mignone said. “I wanted to help build something that changes that—whether you’re coming in for a routine checkup, navigating a difficult diagnosis, or simply asking questions.”
Holistic Healthcare Across Life Stages
At the heart of the collaborative is a multidisciplinary team of 125 expert providers, bringing together specialists in gynecology, internal medicine, mental health, nutrition, and physical wellness. Care will be accessible across NYU Langone’s network, ensuring women receive coordinated and personalized attention, rather than fragmented treatment.
The program’s key services include:
-
Routine and preventive health screenings
-
Fertility and pregnancy care
-
Menopause and midlife health support
-
Fibroid diagnosis and treatment
-
Enrollment in clinical studies for high-risk conditions
-
Access to mental health and wellness resources
By uniting care under one umbrella, the collaborative aims to simplify healthcare navigation for women and ensure comprehensive support at every stage.
Launch of Griffin Healthspan and Vitality Center
The collaborative also introduces the Griffin Healthspan and Vitality Center, a pioneering wellness initiative funded by Ken Griffin. This component of the program focuses on healthy aging and is designed to empower women with tools for longevity and vitality.
Services offered include:
-
Wellness and fitness classes
-
Nutrition and dietary counseling
-
Mental health support and therapy
-
Movement science and injury prevention
“Women deserve the same access to innovative healthcare and wellness programs as men, especially as they age,” said Griffin. “By supporting holistic approaches that combine physical, emotional, and mental wellness, we’re helping people live longer, healthier lives.”
Redefining Medical Education
Beyond clinical services, the Mignone Women’s Health Collaborative will help reshape how women’s healthcare is taught and understood. NYU Langone plans to expand its curriculum to include specialized coursework that addresses gender-specific health disparities and the complex medical needs of women.
This initiative will train the next generation of healthcare providers to recognize and close historical gaps in women’s health outcomes. “We want our doctors and nurses to enter the field with a deep understanding of what comprehensive care truly means for women,” said Dr. Bret Rudy, executive vice president and chief operating officer at NYU Langone.
Promoting Equity and Access
Historically, women’s health issues have been underfunded, under-researched, and inadequately addressed in clinical settings. The collaborative seeks to reverse this trend by investing in equitable healthcare delivery and personalized medicine.
“This isn’t just about building new facilities,” said Allison Mignone. “It’s about building trust, accessibility, and a better standard of care for all women—regardless of background, income, or age.”
With this new collaborative, NYU Langone positions itself as a national leader in addressing the full spectrum of women’s health, committed to innovation, education, and compassionate care.
