Harvard University has announced the appointment of two prominent Indian-American leaders, Anjali Sud and Sanjay Seth, to its prestigious governing bodies. These new appointments underscore the university’s dedication to fostering inclusive leadership and addressing critical global challenges such as digital innovation and climate change.
Anjali Sud, the current CEO of Tubi and former CEO of Vimeo, has been elected to Harvard’s Board of Overseers. Her election fills the remaining two years of a term vacated by Mark Carney, who stepped down following his appointment as Prime Minister of Canada. Known for her transformational leadership at Vimeo, Sud shifted the company’s business model from video sharing to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, successfully taking the company public in 2021.
Under her leadership, Vimeo flourished into a platform that empowered content creators and small businesses with professional-grade tools, distinguishing itself in a competitive digital landscape. Sud’s strategic vision and advocacy for digital equity have made her a respected figure in the tech industry.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sud is recognized for her dedication to mentoring underrepresented communities and advocating for greater inclusivity in leadership. Her commitment aligns with Harvard’s ongoing initiatives to support diverse perspectives within its governance.
“It is an honor to serve on the Board of Overseers and contribute to shaping the future of an institution that has played such a pivotal role in my journey,” Sud stated. “I look forward to working with fellow members to foster innovation and equity in higher education.”
Meanwhile, Sanjay Seth has been elected as a director of the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). His three-year term will commence on July 1, 2025. A seasoned expert in climate policy and sustainability, Seth brings over two decades of experience in environmental advocacy and governmental roles.
Seth has served at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is a co-founder of Harvard Alumni for Climate and the Environment. His work has been instrumental in advancing climate policy, emphasizing the integration of environmental considerations into economic and social systems. Seth holds dual master’s degrees from Harvard, reflecting a long-standing connection with the institution.
In a statement following his appointment, Seth said, “Being elected to the HAA is a profound honor. Harvard has long been a leader in fostering thought leadership on critical global issues, and I am committed to helping alumni engage meaningfully on sustainability and climate action.”
The Board of Overseers is one of Harvard’s two governing boards, the other being the Harvard Corporation. While the Corporation exercises fiduciary responsibility for the university’s academic and financial operations, the Board of Overseers provides counsel on strategic directions, visiting committees, and broader oversight of academic programs.
The Harvard Alumni Association, on the other hand, serves to connect the global network of over 400,000 Harvard graduates, supporting lifelong learning and fostering alumni engagement. Directors of the HAA play a crucial role in guiding the association’s mission and expanding its outreach.
These appointments reflect Harvard’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership with individuals who embody a commitment to progress, inclusivity, and global impact. The university continues to prioritize the selection of leaders who not only bring professional excellence but also contribute diverse viewpoints and community-centered values.
Both Sud and Seth represent the intersection of innovation and social responsibility. Their appointments are expected to enhance the university’s initiatives in digital transformation and environmental sustainability. As Harvard evolves to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world, the presence of leaders like Sud and Seth signals a forward-thinking approach to governance and alumni relations.
