Monaco based designer Ursula Carlton creates emotionally resonant interiors shaped by trust, instinct, and timeless European elegance.
The most luxurious homes are not always the loudest. They are not defined solely by square footage, rare materials, or dramatic architecture. Often, the most unforgettable spaces are the ones that feel deeply personal, where every detail reflects the people living inside them; not only their personal taste, but identity, memory, and emotion.
That philosophy sits at the heart of Ursula Carlton Design.
Founded by Monaco based residential interior designer Ursula Carlton, the studio has earned a reputation for creating refined, highly personal interiors across Europe for clients who value discretion, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design. From private vineyard estates to Mediterranean residences overlooking the sea, Carlton approaches every project with one defining principle: no two homes should ever feel the same.
Rather than imposing a recognisable signature aesthetic, she focuses on understanding the clients themselves; interpreting their lives, routines, and emotional rhythms within the space.
That instinctive, deeply human approach is what continues attracting a growing portfolio of high profile clients, including members of British nobility and senior figures within global luxury brands.
“I often describe my work as creating the ‘happy tear effect,’” Carlton explains. “The greatest compliment I can receive is when a client walks into their completed space and becomes emotional because it finally feels like them.” “My role is not to create a home that looks like mine,” Carlton explains. “It is to create a home that feels unmistakably like theirs.”
Designing Beyond Aesthetic Trends
In an industry often driven by trends and social media aesthetics, Carlton believes exceptional design begins by understanding how a space is truly lived in.
How morning light settles across a kitchen island. How a dressing suite feels at the end of a long evening. How layered lighting changes the atmosphere of a private wine collection cellar as day turns into night.
Every project begins with observing those quieter details.
“If a north-facing room lacks natural sunlight, I do not fight against it,” Carlton says. “I lean into darker, moodier tones to create intimacy and atmosphere.”
That sensitivity to architecture, environment, and lifestyle allows her interiors to feel intuitive rather than staged. A vineyard estate might inspire layered textures and tones that echo the landscape beyond the windows. Mediterranean homes may embrace softer transitions between indoor and outdoor living so spaces feel calm, connected, and instinctive. Carlton creates homes that feel entwined with their setting in subtle yet meaningful ways.
The result is luxury that feels calm, effortless, and deeply lived in.

A Career Built On Trust And Reinvention
Before launching her own studio, Carlton spent years working for established interior design companies across Europe. Over time, however, she began questioning why she was building other people’s visions rather than her own.
That decision ultimately led her to Monaco, a place she felt naturally aligned with her creative identity.
“To me, Monaco represents glamour, excellence, and individuality,” she explains. “There is the elegance of Grace Kelly, the energy of the Monaco Grand Prix, and this culture of refinement that values craftsmanship and precision.”
The move became a turning point.
As her independent studio grew, so did her reputation for interpreting clients with remarkable emotional accuracy. Many clients arrive unable to fully articulate what they want from their homes. They know how they want their home to feel, but struggle to translate emotion into design language. Carlton has built her reputation on bridging that gap.
That emotional intelligence often turns the design process into something far more personal than selecting finishes or furnishings.
“There are moments where I joke that I become part interior designer, part therapist, and occasionally part marriage counsellor,” she says with a laugh.
Yet beneath the humour is a deeper truth. Designing someone’s home means understanding how they live together, where they seek comfort, and what makes them feel grounded. That level of trust becomes essential, especially during large renovations where unexpected decisions and stressful moments inevitably arise.
Carlton is known for personally showing up on site when challenges emerge, helping clients and contractors navigate complex decisions with calm reassurance.
“One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing the moment clients realise they are no longer carrying the pressure alone,” she says.

The Viral Home That Changed Everything
Carlton’s ability to create emotionally resonant spaces gained wider attention after renovating her own home and placing it on the market. Unexpectedly, the property went viral internationally, capturing attention across social media and design publications.
For Carlton, the response confirmed something she had always believed.
People are drawn to spaces with souls.
Not simply beautiful interiors, but homes that feel layered, authentic, and emotionally alive.
That same philosophy now shapes every project undertaken by Ursula Carlton Design. The studio specialises in luxury culinary kitchens, bespoke dressing suites, and private wine collection cellars where technical precision and daily ritual intersect.
These are spaces designed not only to impress visually, but to elevate the experience of everyday life.
Award Winning Luxury Design Excellence
Ursula Carlton Design was recently named Best Luxury Residential Interior Designer in Monaco of 2026 by Best of Best Review, recognising the studio’s emotionally driven approach to luxury interiors, refined European craftsmanship, and deeply personalised client experience. The award highlights Carlton’s ability to create timeless residences that balance elegance, functionality, and emotional connection while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, discretion, and design innovation.
A Philosophy Rooted In Excellence
Long before becoming an interior designer, Carlton developed a mindset that still shapes her work today.
In 2016, she won Miss Great Britain, an experience she says reinforced discipline, focus, and the pursuit of excellence. Even earlier, she worked as a Disney Princess at Disneyland Paris, where performers were trained to “practise until they got it right, then practice until they could not get it wrong.”
Carlton has carried that philosophy into every design project since.
“I refine and revisit every detail until the design feels completely right for the client,” she explains. “Then I push further, introducing ideas they may never have considered themselves but that perfectly fit the way they live.”
That relentless attention to detail is one reason many clients return repeatedly, inviting Carlton to design second homes, renovations, and new chapters of their lives as families evolve.
Over time, many clients become close friends.
That ongoing trust reflects something increasingly rare within luxury design today: genuine emotional investment.
For Ursula Carlton, luxury is not about imposing style. It is about creating spaces people instinctively want to return to.
