The acclaimed saxophonist now holds the highest honor from the International Impact Book Awards for his children's book.

A few days ago, a message arrived that Prof. Robert Stewart had not expected. The International Impact Book Awards had named him Distinguished Author of the Year. This is the highest title the organization can bestow on an author.

Stewart has played for packed concert halls, recorded for Quincy Jones, and stood among the finest musicians of his generation. Yet this recognition landed differently. It honored a small book written for young readers, titled Children's Guide For Life: Short Stories That Inspire. "I am deeply humbled by this International Award," he says.

A Career Built on Sound and Curiosity

Long before he was an award-winning author, Stewart was a musician of rare range. He plays saxophones, piano, flute, and drums, and he also sings, composes, and produces. His two major label albums, The Force and In the Gutta, were released through Quincy Jones and Qwest/Warner Bros. Records.

Critics noticed early. Los Angeles Times journalist Bill Kohlhaase praised his unique, personal sound and his remarkably inventive improvisations. Jazz critic Jason Ankeny called him one of the most impressive jazz saxophonists to emerge at the end of the twentieth century. Drummer Billy Higgins went further, describing Stewart as "perhaps the most important young artist to come along in decades."

Stewart also served as lead tenor saxophonist on Blood on the Fields, the Wynton Marsalis work that won the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He was a protégé of saxophonist Pharoah Sanders as well. Few young players can claim such mentors, and fewer still carry those lessons into a second creative field.

A Scholar Behind the Saxophone

Music was never the whole picture. Stewart holds a doctorate of science in astronomy from the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds an honorary doctorate in world religions from Provident University in Delaware.

That blend of disciplines shapes his writing. His catalog includes titles on astronomy for teenagers, Buddhism for beginners, and the evidence surrounding Jesus. It also includes a martial arts biography, Bruce Lee: The Shaolin Mystic, along with works on philosophy, science, and music. Each book reflects the same belief: complex ideas should be open to ordinary readers.

Nowhere is that belief clearer than in his work for children. Stewart believes that the early years shape a young mind more than any later stage. The stories he writes aim to plant good habits of thought before the world has a chance to plant worse ones.

Why Children's Guide For Life Matters

Children's Guide For Life offers short stories built around character, courage, and self-respect. Each tale is brief enough for a bedtime reading. Each also leaves a lesson that a child can carry into the next morning.

The approach is practical. Parents and teachers often search for ways to cultivate character in a child's mind without lecturing. Stories solve that problem. A child who meets a brave character on the page can borrow some of that courage at school or at home.

Stewart is direct about his motive. "I HAVE SEEN & DONE WHAT NO HUMAN SHOULD SEE OR DO. YOUNG SOULS, EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE DONE HAS BEEN FOR YOU," he says. The statement is forceful, and it explains the urgency behind the book. He writes for the young because he believes they deserve guidance that is honest and clear.

He is equally frank about what growth demands. "When you BEGIN to TRANSCEND, you will find that you no longer FIT IN, with the AVERAGE JOE, for he does not wish to do so but he doesn't KNOW that it's an outright sin not to strive to TRANSCEND. Consequently, he will forever be a follower of TRENDS and MEN" he says. For Stewart, the message to children is simple. Reaching higher may set a person apart, and that is acceptable.

The Team Behind the Honor

The award did not arrive alone. Stewart credits the International Impact Book Awards, founded and operated by Mrs. Nim Stant, whom he calls a "colossal force of nature." Her program has given independent voices a stage that traditional channels often withhold.

He also credits his publisher, Royal Book House of New York, owned and operated by Mr. Nathan Randall. A strong publishing partner turns a manuscript into a book that readers can find. In Stewart's case, that partnership has helped carry a message for young readers to a wider audience.

A Place on the List of Legends

The author honor is not the only surprise of recent months. Stewart was voted one of the 80 most popular Black jazz musicians of the twentieth century. The list includes John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, and Duke Ellington.

"I never dreamed that I would be documented on the same list as John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and so on," Stewart says. "It is quite surreal, to say the least." Coming from a man with his résumé, the humility is striking.

The two honors share a thread. One celebrates a lifetime of sound, and the other celebrates a lifetime of ideas. Together they show an artist who has refused to settle into a single role.

What Readers Can Gain

Readers who open Children's Guide For Life will find more than entertainment. They will find a set of short, memorable stories that parents can read aloud and children can revisit alone. The book also gives families a shared language for talking about integrity, effort, and purpose.

For parents, that means fewer difficult conversations started cold. For teachers, it means a ready tool for lessons in character. For children, it means a friendly voice that treats them as capable of big thoughts. The price is also low. Most titles in Stewart's catalog sell for between $1.99 and $4.99, which puts wisdom within reach of nearly every household.

Take the Next Step

Readers who wish to give a child a stronger start may consider beginning with Children's Guide For Life: Short Stories That Inspire. Prof. Robert Stewart's books page offers the description and a chance to choose the stories that fit a family or classroom. His other titles in astronomy, world religions, philosophy, and music are also available to explore.
