Samka Keranovic shares approaches to boundaries, people-pleasing, and self-trust through self-guided workbooks and personalized coaching.

For many high-achieving women, success comes with an unspoken expectation: be capable, be available, and never disappoint anyone. They lead teams, build businesses, manage responsibilities, and support others with remarkable consistency. Yet behind that outward confidence, some face a quieter struggle. They agree when they want to decline, question decisions they once trusted, and prioritize everyone else's needs above their own. Over time, the pressure to keep others satisfied can leave even accomplished women feeling disconnected from their personal priorities.

At Desert Roots Wellness, Co-Founder Samka Keranovic helps women examine these patterns through practical approaches to boundaries, people-pleasing, and self-trust. Drawing on 16 years of private coaching and more than 20 years of corporate leadership experience, she encourages high-achieving women to recognize where external expectations influence their decisions and develop habits that better reflect their values. Her philosophy centers on a straightforward belief: professional achievement should not require sacrificing personal identity or self-respect.

Why High Achieving Women Struggle With People Pleasing

High achieving women are often valued for their reliability, adaptability, and willingness to help. However, these strengths can become difficult to manage when being dependable turns into feeling responsible for everyone's satisfaction.

People pleasing can appear in everyday professional situations. A business owner accepts another project despite an already demanding schedule. A manager avoids expressing disagreement to preserve harmony. A professional repeatedly rearranges her priorities because she fears disappointing colleagues.

Although these choices may seem minor, they can establish a pattern in which external approval becomes more important than personal judgment.

Keranovic describes this behavior as self-abandonment, a process in which individuals repeatedly override their needs, values, and preferences to accommodate others.

She explored this perspective in her July 2026 Fast Company Leadership article, This Habit Leads to Burnout. Are You at Risk?. Her argument encourages professionals to examine not only how much responsibility they carry, but also why they continue accepting responsibilities that conflict with their priorities.

For high-achieving women, recognizing this distinction can be an important step toward making decisions with greater intention.

From Corporate Experience To Desert Roots Wellness

Keranovic’s background includes more than 20 years in corporate leadership, including service as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with oversight of a $5.2 million P&L. Alongside her corporate career, she coached privately, building 16 years of experience supporting personal and professional development. That combination gave her a firsthand understanding of the expectations placed on ambitious professionals.

She later stepped away from full-time corporate executive work to make coaching her primary focus, bringing her professional direction into closer alignment with the principles she had been practicing and teaching.

Alongside Co-Founder Tyler LaBarge, she established Desert Roots Wellness to help high achievers and business owners create lives and careers that better reflect their values.

LaBarge contributes experience in sales, marketing, business management, finance, human resources, team building, and leadership. His background also includes navigating the competing expectations often found within family business environments.

Both founders are Certified Geo Love Healing Practitioners, trained in energetic boundary practices. Their coaching philosophy, called Mind, Body, Soul, combines personal reflection with practical exercises and accountability.

Although Desert Roots Wellness serves a broad professional audience, the themes are particularly relevant to high-achieving women balancing ambition, relationships, and personal priorities. Its Blueprint library contains 20 self-guided digital workbooks and practical guides organized into five themed Collections. The Boundary, People-Pleasing, and Self-Trust Blueprints are three resources within that broader library.

The Boundary Blueprint Helps Women Communicate Their Limits

For women accustomed to being dependable, setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable. Declining requests may create concerns about appearing selfish, difficult, or uncooperative.

Keranovic offers a different perspective.

"Boundaries are not walls or punishments. They are acts of self-respect," she explains.

The Boundary Blueprint helps readers recognize situations where personal limits are repeatedly overlooked. This might involve noticing when agreement comes from guilt rather than willingness or when additional responsibilities conflict with existing commitments.

The next step involves communicating expectations clearly and allowing others to respond without assuming responsibility for their reactions.

In professional settings, this can mean requesting time before accepting an assignment, clarifying priorities with colleagues, or declining commitments that exceed available capacity.

Rather than discouraging ambition, boundaries can help women direct their energy toward responsibilities that genuinely reflect their priorities.

The People-Pleasing Blueprint Explores Values and Approval

People pleasing does not always appear as insecurity. Sometimes it looks like exceptional customer service, thoughtful leadership, or an eagerness to support others.

The difference often lies in motivation.

Helping because it reflects personal values is different from helping because declining feels unacceptable.

The People-Pleasing Blueprint encourages readers to recognize moments when they override their judgment to maintain approval. Instead of automatically agreeing, they can consider whether a decision reflects their priorities or simply avoids potential disappointment.

This approach does not require abandoning kindness or collaboration. It encourages women to make thoughtful choices rather than allowing fear of disapproval to determine their responses.

For high-achieving women, that distinction can create more room for honest communication, independent thinking, and personal responsibility.

The Self-Trust Blueprint Builds on Small Commitments

Self trust plays an important role in how women approach leadership, relationships, and professional decisions. Even highly accomplished individuals may begin questioning their judgment when they consistently place other people's opinions above their own.

Keranovic believes rebuilding self-trust begins with manageable actions.

"Self-trust is rebuilt through small, kept promises to yourself," she says.

The Self-Trust Blueprint helps readers examine their decision-making habits and the commitments they make to themselves. Reflection and practical exercises encourage them to notice where daily actions support—or contradict—their stated priorities.

For one woman, keeping a promise might involve protecting time for an important project. For another, it may mean expressing an honest opinion during a meeting or making a decision without repeatedly seeking reassurance.

The emphasis is on consistent practice. Like the other Blueprints, it is a workbook-based resource that can be used independently, without enrolling in coaching.

For those who want other forms of support, Desert Roots Wellness offers the self-paced, video-guided 30 Day Reset, video-guided digital toolkits, and private coaching. Its 90-day coaching package combines regular sessions with practices, assignments, and accountability between sessions. Organizations can explore Sustainable Success: Burnout Prevention for Leaders & Teams, which addresses workload conversations, boundaries, prioritization, and team practices.

All coaching sessions take place by video, allowing the company to serve clients worldwide. Its services focus on personal and professional development and are not a substitute for therapy or clinical treatment.

Redefining Success Without Losing Yourself

The philosophy behind Desert Roots Wellness does not ask women to become less ambitious. Instead, it encourages them to examine whether their ambitions reflect personal values or expectations they have accepted from others.

A woman can lead effectively while maintaining boundaries. She can support colleagues without accepting every responsibility. She can welcome feedback while trusting her own judgment.

For Keranovic, these everyday decisions form the foundation of a more intentional approach to achievement.

The Boundary, People-Pleasing, and Self-Trust Blueprints provide practical ways to examine established habits and develop greater clarity about personal priorities.

Rather than measuring success solely through productivity or external recognition, the approach encourages women to consider whether their professional choices support the lives they genuinely want to build.
