In a small Cambodian village, Selah Harper’s grandmother made a life-altering decision — to take young Selah from her mother and bring her to the United States, believing it was the only way to escape a generational cycle of hardship. That act of love planted a seed of hope, but it came with a cost: separation, trauma, and a lifetime of resilience.
By the age of 15, Selah had endured what many wouldn’t face in a lifetime — life in a refugee camp, emotional and physical abuse, homelessness, and the weight of survival. With limited English and an unshakable will, she left her family to seek safety, often sleeping in cars or scavenging for food. Even as a single teen mom, she made a promise to herself: her story would not end in suffering.
But life’s storms continued. A devastating relationship resurfaced her deepest wounds, spiraling her into depression and despair. One night, driving 145 mph toward a barricade, she reached the edge. Then a voice inside broke through:
“You have to go through it to get through it. Your story will help others.”
That moment changed everything.
Selah poured the vodka down the drain, stepped into therapy, and began a profound journey of healing. Modality after modality, she pieced herself back together — and along the way, she discovered her calling: to create the safe haven she never had.
