Christina Applegate Opens Up About Her Ongoing Battle with Multiple Sclerosis
Actress Christina Applegate, known for her role in Married with Children, has candidly discussed the severe effects of living with multiple sclerosis (MS) on her podcast, MeSsy. Diagnosed in 2021, Applegate has faced numerous health challenges due to this autoimmune disorder, notably frequent hospitalizations and severe physical discomfort.
Frequent Hospitalizations and Severe Symptoms
During a recent episode of her podcast with co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate responded to a listener who was dealing with significant digestive issues. She shared her personal struggle, revealing, “Three years since I was diagnosed, I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain.” The persistent symptoms were initially perplexing as doctors suggested they were “not an MS thing.” However, Applegate later discovered that MS might cause organ motility issues, which slow down bodily functions.
Finding Humor Amidst Adversity
Despite the challenges, Applegate maintains her sense of humor about her condition. She amusingly described the interconnected symptoms as the “fight club” within her body, humorously pointing out the “sexiest” aspect of her joint symptoms.
Relapse and Intensified Symptoms
Applegate has shared previous health updates since her diagnosis, including a notable relapse in 2024 that worsened her physical and mental well-being. In her latest update, she acknowledged being in a significant relapse, stating, “I’m in relapse right now, pretty bad.” This episode has affected her sleep due to unusual eye movements and has been compounded by daunting leg pain stemming from poor circulation, making basic tasks like showering challenging.
