Biologique Recherche’s Iconic P50 1970 Toner Discontinued
Biologique Recherche has announced the discontinuation of its popular P50 1970 exfoliating toner. This decision comes following new FDA regulations restricting phenol, a key ingredient in the toner since its debut in 1970.
While stocks last, consumers are encouraged to explore alternative toners with similar efficacy.
Expert Insights on P50 1970’s Impact
Danuta Mieloch, founder of Rescue Spa, has been a long-time advocate of P50 1970. Celebrated for its effectiveness in treating enlarged pores and acne, Mieloch reassures current users that they can safely finish their existing bottles.
She highlights that antiseptics, like those used in P50, are common in products such as Carmex and Listerine, and there is no immediate risk in continued use until supplies run out.
Evolving Skincare Trends
According to Mieloch, the discontinuation is reflective of evolving times and regulations. She draws parallels with past changes in skincare, like the now-deprecated Estée Lauder fruit acid gel,
emphasizing that consumers must adapt to new, safer ingredients.
Alternatives to the P50 1970 Toner
With the P50 1970 becoming scarce, Mieloch suggests the P50W lotion for those with sensitive skin, as it exclusively uses lactic acid.
She also recommends trying toners enriched with AHAs and PHAs, which better penetrate the skin.
Remaining Stock and Availability
As of January, the last P50 1970 stock shipment was dispatched to the U.S., with only limited sizes remaining in spas like Rescue Spa and Paul Labrecque Spa. While some sizes at these locations are depleted, smaller bottles and travel sizes remain available online.
Various other iterations of the P50 line continue to be sold without phenol.
