Stylish Londoners Are Officially Ditching Dresses For Skirts

In recent years, London street style looks have revolved around dresses, from Regina Pyo’s puff-sleeved midi to Rixo’s floral tea dress to Molly Goddard’s tulle creations. A look at recent street style photos shows Londoners taking a break from their dress collections. Skirts are currently the MVP of London’s street style scene, from bubble-hem minis to bold checked maxi. The general consensus is that the bolder the skirt, the better.

The resurgence of the skirt is happening in all four fashion capitals, but designers at London Fashion Week are leading the way. Aaron Esch presents a sassy bubble-hem mini, Molly Goddard presents a playful midi adorned with ruffled hems, and Chopova Rowena’s signature pleated carabiner skirt is the most coveted in town. It has become one of the most popular fashion exports. Front row darling Mikita Oliver also had me set a used item alert for her Burberry check miniskirt after she wore it at the show.

Dresses are ready-to-wear clothes that require little styling, so they certainly make mornings a little easier. However, you may be limited in the amount of unique stamps you can add to your appearance. Perhaps this is why skirts are having such a moment in 2024. London saw eccentricity overtaking minimalism. Bubble hem mini and riding boots?Of course! Nude skirt and sports jersey? Why not? Keep scrolling to see how Londoners are using skirts to add personality to their looks.

How Londoners are styling their skirts this fall

Style Notes: This moody Burberry outfit will have you booking a vacation to the highlands. Riding boots, checked maxi skirts, and khaki knits are traditional winter staples, but thigh-high slits add a modern twist to the look.
