Reese Witherspoon has gotten very real about the realities of motherhood.
In an interview with People magazine, the actress and producer explained how her own experience raising children gave her the perspective she needed to write realistic children’s books. Her new book, Busy Betty & The Perfect Christmas Present, out tomorrow, doesn’t hold back when it comes to tantrums.
“It was really important to me to have the artist portray what Betty’s children really are,” Witherspoon said. “So, Cindy Yang is an artist that I met and she had great designs that felt really modern. But she also does really funny things, like portraying children’s anger. .”
As Witherspoon went on to explain, her book “Epic Meltdown” was actually inspired by her own children.
“I have three kids myself, and I don’t know a kid who doesn’t have at least one epic meltdown a day,” Witherspoon said. “So I wanted her meltdown to look real, like tears streaming down her face. Cindy really understood that.”
Witherspoon has two children, Ava Phillippe, 25, and Deacon Phillippe, 21, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. After the couple separated, Witherspoon faced some of the challenges that come with being a single parent. “When I was in my late 20s, I was a single mom, so I had to make a lot of decisions for my two children, and I had to make a lot of financial decisions,” she said. said earlier this year.
Witherspoon has her third child, Tennessee James Toth, 12, with ex Jim Toth.
While Witherspoon may have had her fair share of tantrums when her kids were younger, things seem to have gotten a little easier on the actress and producer these days, now that they’re a little older.
Earlier this year, Witherspoon twinned with daughter Ava at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and a few months later, she brought her son Deacon to the Los Angeles premiere. Now that Eva and Deacon are older, they attend events on their own.
