From ‘grow your own girlfriend’ kits to leather toilet seats, the royal family is known for exchanging silly gifts for expensive ones at Christmas. And apparently, it’s a tradition that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continued even after they left their roles as senior royals and moved to California.
In excerpts from his book Spare, published in The Sun on Friday, Prince Harry shared hilarious anecdotes about the couple’s first Christmas together in America in 2020. In a statement, Prince Harry revealed what his wife had given him as a gift, saying that Meghan had continued to uphold the “Windsor family tradition.” He said, “It’s the Queen’s little Christmas ornament!”
He added, “I roared. What–?”
“Meg spotted it in a local shop and thought I might like it. I held it up to the light and it was Grandma’s T-face,” Harry continued. “I hung it on a branch at eye level. I was so happy to see Meg there. It made both Meg and I smile.”
Sadly, their joy didn’t last long as the ornaments ended up crumbling to the floor. The Duke of Sussex wrote: “Archie played around the tree and shook the stand, shaking the tree so much that Grandma fell down.” “I heard something hit and turned around. Debris was all over the floor.”
Archie, then 18 months old, lovingly tried to correct what he had done. “Archie ran and grabbed the spray bottle,” Harry said. “For some reason he thought spraying water on the broken pieces would fix it.”
The story then took a humorous turn when Meghan told her son, “No, Archie, no, don’t spray gun!” Harry then grabbed a dustpan and began sweeping up the debris, writing that he thought to himself, “This is weird.”
This year, the Sussexes are reportedly planning a quiet Christmas at home with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. “Meghan’s mother, Doria, will also be joining the couple at their home in Montecito, making sure the children have a fun day out despite not being near their extended family,” a source told Closer (The Post (via ), noted that the couple were not invited. They will be vacationing at Sandringham with the rest of the royal family.
“It’s not surprising since they didn’t expect to be invited, and even if they were invited, they would likely decline,” the source added.
