But according to Nancy Meyers, we’ve been wrong all along. The prolific director of The Holiday and queen of coastal granny chic recently revealed that she never intended for the film to be a holiday movie. Yes, The Holiday, whose title literally says it all, is a festive Jude Law set set in a postcard-perfect snowy villa, Christmas fettuccine, and the two weeks leading up to Christmas. This is a set to flirt with.
“I didn’t think about it that way,” she said during an appearance on the Hollywood Gold Podcast. “I just wanted to tell a story about these people. I set it at Christmas because they might be lonely.”

And it was solitude, not the festive season, that interested Myers in exploration. “The holidays seem like a good time to address those issues,” she said. “So it wasn’t like, ‘Let’s make a festive holiday movie.'” Not at all. ”
