My Maternity Style Is Defined By Modest Clothing.

That moment reminded me that if I don’t buy anything maternity for my wardrobe, I don’t need to. I was also convinced that there was no need to hide my pregnancy. (Note: I no longer work full time in an office. It’s a privilege and I have the freedom to dress however I want.) Pregnant women feel the need to hide their pregnancy when it comes to their career. I don’t want to hear about it happening. No one should feel that kind of pressure. Let’s do that.

Currently, I style all my maternity looks under my bump. So the bump is out. These days, when I get dressed, I pretend like my bump isn’t there and I’m just traditionally showing off my belly button. Although my belly button is now a giant bun sticking out from my body. Maybe the inspiration comes from Rihanna’s fragrant belly-baring fashion choices during her pregnancy, or how Madonna trotted around London while pregnant with her second child in 2000. , perhaps because of the way it bulges out of its Union Jack T-shirt and sagging cargo pants from the sheer grace of G.D. . In 1991, Demi Moore appeared fully nude on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. Don’t forget it. Sienna Miller walked the Vogue World: London red carpet in a frothy Schiaparelli look, a ruffled cream crop top and candy-like skirt.

I am not alone in my worst situation. I recently ran into the designer of the Italian Cool Girl label at the newly opened Maimoun store in Williamsburg. Because she was pregnant, she wore her pants slightly unbuttoned. (Note: I’ve tried this tactic with a zipper, but it doesn’t work. The zipper on my pants opens and they fall off as a result.) She looked great. Very laissez-faire, very anything goes!

Then, facialist Raquel Medina-Cleghorn sent me a photo of herself pregnant while attending the Sandy Liang Spring 2025 show. She wore a pretty little Bo Peep-like pink ribbon in her hair, an open cardigan, and low-slung jeans. “Honestly, it felt like a really bold thing to do for me,” Medina-Cleghorn says. “I don’t dress ‘professionally’ for work, but still, I felt exposing my belly button was too intimate for that setting, so this was probably the only time I showed my belly.” And when I got in line to enter the show space, some people took pictures of my street style, which was a little embarrassing since I’m not used to it, but it made me feel really good. ”
