Editor’s note: It’s been a big year for Marc Jacobs. Marc Jacobs celebrates 40 years in the fashion world by becoming American Vogue’s first guest editor. We conclude 2024 with an archival look back at the designer’s career. This Spring 1995 collection, unveiled in New York on October 29, 1994, has been digitized as part of Vogue Runway’s ongoing efforts to document the history of fashion shows.
Writing about the 1995 Dial a Decade spring season, Vogue reported, “Marc Jacobs revisits the sophisticated and sexy Saint Laurent woman of the ’70s.” That was true, but there was so much more. The mix included nautical looks with lei and Mickey Mouse ears, anchor decorations, and satin Western dresses that can be ordered from Manuel in Nashville. Closing the show in ’30s-inspired gold lamé looks were Kate Moss with a flower crown in her hair and Kristen McMenamy in a black witch’s hat and cloak. The models held balloons, reminiscent of a costume party.
