Encounters in Hallmark movies almost always occur when the main characters get dressed up, eat hot chocolate, or go on a practical tree cutting trip.

So the latest star on your festive beauty mood board would be none other than Katie Holmes, who was spotted wearing all her simple glamorous glory on December 18th. While walking around New York with wrapped presents in her tote bag, she showed off her perfect side braid, which is easier for the average person to emulate than Cindy Lou Who’s updo.

Hiding the top of her head with her favorite black beanie (wintry, practical, and the perfect accessory for rough hair days), the rest of Holmes’ long brunette hair is twisted into a braid and tucked over her left shoulder. I let it hang over my head. The braids were held in place with thin black elastic, and a few short strands slipped out, allowing sweet curls to frame her face.

The rest of her charm was toned down as well. There was no nail polish in sight, and her only visible makeup was lip gloss (she is said to be a fan of Chanel’s Rouge Coco line), thanks to oversized sunglasses that covered her face.
However, if you want to dress up your braids, the Dawson’s Creek star could be your inspiration. Last February, she appeared with the same hairstyle (sans beanie) at the opening of Chanel’s new boutique. Instead of gloss, she opted for deep red lipstick, the typical festive makeup. And yes, everything worked the same.
