A Lifelong Passion for Education
Jessica’s journey into education began at a young age. As a five-year-old, she found herself helping classmates understand challenging concepts, unknowingly setting the stage for a career that would span over two decades. Today, as a tutor, mentor, and consultant, she continues to inspire countless students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Through her work, Jessica has cultivated a strong belief that when a student believes in their own potential, true learning can take place. From Public Schools to Personalized Education
Jessica has worked in public schools for most of her career, particularly in Title I schools where students often faced additional challenges. Despite the obstacles these schools faced, Jessica’s students consistently outperformed district and state averages, earning top marks in subjects like biology and AP environmental science.
Her experience spans across formal settings like high schools and colleges, as well as informal environments such as zoos, 4-H centers, and state parks. In each setting, Jessica found innovative ways to make science engaging, bringing real-world applications into her lessons to make complex topics more relatable.
A Track Record of Success in STEM Education
Throughout her career, Jessica has built a reputation for helping students achieve remarkable success. At Crawford County High School, her students achieved an impressive 90.9% pass rate (82% earned a 4 or 5) on the 2023 AP Environmental Science Exam, far outpacing the global pass rate of 52.9%. Even in her first year teaching the course, 80% of her students passed, compared to just 2.5% in the two years prior. These statistics demonstrate Jessica’s ability to help students overcome challenges and excel academically.
During her first year at Crawford County High School, she more than doubled the percentage of students earning distinguished and proficient ratings in biology, increasing from 20.8% in 2019 to 51.3% in 2021. In 2022, 72.6% of her students achieved scores of 3 or 4 (proficient and distinguished levels) compared to 47.6% of students in the state. At Peach County High School, her on-level biology students outperformed the school’s honors average for distinguished-level learners, underscoring her ability to drive exceptional outcomes for all students, regardless of their starting point.
Beyond the Classroom: A Holistic Approach to Learning
Today, Jessica’s impact extends far beyond the classroom. As the founder of Science Tutoring Expert, she provides comprehensive tutoring and mentoring services to students ranging from middle school through college. Her approach is intentionally holistic, emphasizing not only academic performance but also the development of skills that support sustained success.
Her mentoring goes well beyond improving grades. Jessica equips students with strong organizational habits, proven study strategies, effective time-management techniques, and the critical-thinking skills essential for academic and professional growth. Through her personalized Study Skills packages, students build executive functioning skills that foster long-term achievement in both school and life.
