January is rapidly approaching. There’s never been a better time to update your look. “New year, new you, new hair” is our motto for 2025, when we say goodbye to the haircuts and colors of yesteryear. Going down memory lane, short hair reigned supreme in 2024, with flippy bob and French bob dominating the trend cycle. Long mane layers were the “it” girl, and the most popular question was the butterfly cut. When it comes to hair color, quite a number of options have become popular: from black cherry to chocolate brown to golden blonde.
But while plenty of new styles are on the block (hello, ponytail cuffs and chapel lawn red), expect to see some familiar faces hanging out in the new year. Accessories will continue to be all the rage as they “take on a sophisticated and luxurious vibe in 2025,” says Christine Bellemare, co-founder, owner and lead stylist at Boston’s Maven-A-Correct. Probably. “Think silk or velvet ribbons for low ponytails or romantic braids, gold cuffs to complement a sleek ponytail, and minimal barrettes or jeweled clips for a sophisticated touch.”
As we’ve seen this year, the hair color category continues to be divided into two groups, with warm tones and cool tones competing for favor. “Brunettes take center stage with warm caramel and chestnut tones, or cool, natural browns that mimic their ‘natural’ colors. A cool tone for winter. ”
The pros will share haircuts and colors that will be seen everywhere in 2025, including the iconic blunt bob and loose ’90s-style updo.
