Elf's Viral Power Grip Primer Turns Matte Here's My

We’re intrigued by any product that helps in the eternal quest for long-lasting makeup. And when will the offer from Elf Cosmetics come? I was excited. Elf is a go-to brand in all makeup categories thanks to its affordable and effective formulas, but we’re especially focused on its complexion products.

Building on the huge success of the Power Grip Primer, Elf’s latest offering offers the same grip and staying power, but with matte properties. Find out everything you need to know about the new Power Grip Matte Primer and read my full review.

Think of the Power Grip Matte Primer as the younger, more (oil) controlling sister to elf’s OG Power Grip Primer. Although it has the popular sticky texture, it suppresses excess oil and shine, leaving your skin smooth and dewy. Like Elf’s other two Power Grip primers, the matte version retails for $10 for 26 mL. There’s also a pocket-sized, travel-friendly version that costs $5.

This is for people with combination and oily skin types. Unlike the original, which is formulated with moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid for a dewy finish, the matte version is infused with lemon myrtle blend. For those who aren’t familiar with this hero ingredient, lemon myrtle helps reduce the appearance of oily skin and prevents pores from becoming clogged by controlling the skin’s sebum production. Additionally, the water-based Power Grip Primer contains skin-soothing niacinamide, which reduces inflammation and redness.

my review

Abby Dupes / Birdie

As a true combination skin girl, my face can look like a desert one day and oil spilled the next. So when it comes to skin-tinting products, I like to have options to suit my (and my skin’s) mood. After using Elf’s Power Grip Matte Primer, I can confidently say that this is a staple on my vanity. For reference, when I get oily, oil tends to accumulate in the center of my forehead, upper lip, and chin. I find that when paired with a medium coverage foundation, this primer helps control any daytime shine that develops in the area without the need for blotting papers or powder. At only $10 each, this introductory book is easy to add to your cart.
