Under the ownership of the Kering Group, Brioni is taking a deliberate approach to this new venture, consulting with Giliola Savini Pelone, the daughter of co-founder Gaetano Savini. This collaboration seeks to ensure that the heritage of Brioni’s 80-year legacy in masculine tailoring informs the design of women’s clothing without restricting creativity.

Reimagining Masculine Aesthetics

The women’s collection innovatively repurposes styles from Brioni’s distinguished menswear line. For instance:

  • Safari suits have been transformed into stylish dresses by extending traditional shirt designs.
  • A cashmere pencil skirt now offers greater mobility, incorporating the single vent design typically found on men’s jackets.
  • The iconic tuxedo top is reworked into an evening dress, showcasing a dramatic shift in color from black to white, complemented by handcrafted floral embellishments.

Tailoring with a Feminine Touch

The collection features tailored jackets that maintain the precision expected from Brioni’s craftsmanship. However, these pieces are adapted to suit the female form, balancing architecture and length to enhance fit. Notable details include:

  • Belt decorations that introduce a new angle of customization.
  • Layering techniques derived from traditional shirt designs, reimagined as stylish blouses to accommodate varied shoulder and collar shapes.

Stumpfl explains that the target demographic is uninterested in brand recognition but rather in clothing that enables them to perform their professional roles seamlessly. “She doesn’t care that she’s not known for wearing certain brands,” said Stumpfl. “She wants her clothes to work beautifully to get her to do her job.” This philosophy aligns Brioni’s men’s and women’s collections, merging practicality with upscale design.

Stumpfl’s description of “not empty” luxury highlights the intention behind Brioni’s new direction: to create apparel that truly conveys value through its functionality and craftsmanship, rather than merely serving as a status symbol.
