Fashion Insights with Johanna Parff
“I wear it like this,” Johanna Parff stated during the preview, striking a pose with care on her abdomen. Last season, she executed a similar pose on the runway while following Parv’s guidance. “I always pose like this whenever I explore new things,” she chuckled. “I’m really into studying the 1950s.” The inspiration for the autumn collection came from photographs of Norman Parkinson featuring a woman in skiwear. A fresh way to incorporate new accessories is through the shape of her hit design, now available in various new styles and colors. The design is structured at the waist to prevent the hips from sliding off the shoulders, making it ideal for cycling after meals.
Design Solutions by PARV
Some designers indeed tackle challenges, but PARV adopts a bold approach, addressing issues that many may not even recognize. It makes logical sense to integrate breathable mesh into garments beyond just performance wear, incorporating features like slippery dots to enhance the longevity of pant hems and ensuring both aesthetics and safety with reflective strips. “Why not?” Parv mused about her innovative functional designs.
Unisex Appeal in Fall Lineup
“For some reason, the collection feels much more unisex,” she remarked about her autumn offerings, noting the growing male customer demographic. PARV strikes a consistent balance between traditional women’s attire and men’s fashion, creating a unique atmosphere each season. As she refines specific pieces, she raises questions about who she envisions in her community. The designers presented technical pants with a gentle bend at the knee and contrasted them with directional pants and skirts featuring new expandable waistbands.
“Femini” Touches and Versatility
Her “femini” style includes a zip slit at the back, paired with a pinstriped wool blazer and coordinating trousers, complemented by triangular reinforced cutout cuffs that pair perfectly with heeled boots. “It’s like a warm-up tracksuit that you can remove before engaging in sports, and it can also be worn at the office,” she explained. This versatility also extends to the unisex designs, which feature a wool jacket with a zip slit reaching the top of an elongated dart at the collar bone, along with a funnel neck jacket in a recurring brown hue and a short pointed collar.
Inspirations and Future Aspirations
It’s not the first time she has drawn inspiration from her Master’s collection since graduating. “People I trust kept commenting on this collar, considering it a fascinating structure,” she noted. In the studio, Parv also showcased an ultra-soft sample of a long-sleeved top crafted from a blend containing seaweed, although she admitted it might be too costly for production. “That’s my dream—to use these kinds of fabrics,” she remarked.
Core Values in PARV’s Work
As always, PARV remains devoted to curating a refined and thought-provoking wardrobe foundation. “I’ve tried everything—likely with my hands on my hips—working within it, enhancing it, and displaying it to my close circle,” she stated. “Right now, I’m only wearing my designs,” she laughed. “I honestly don’t know what else to put on.”
