As a health writer and editor who has been asked to write quite a few articles on gut and butt health over the years, I’ve long been interested in adding a bidet to my home. After all, many gastroenterologists and urologists are quick to praise bidets as an alternative to wiping with dry toilet paper (or wet wipes), and I’ve traveled outside of the United States to find out more about bidets. I realized how widespread it is. other parts of the world.
You finally got your chance this fall when Tushy released their newest bidet attachment, the Tushy Wave Non-Electric Bidet Seat ($189). Tushy is a trusted name in the world of bathroom accessories, and the Tushy Classic features on many best bidet lists. So it’s safe to say that Wave is the latest and greatest in video gaming.
Here’s my experience installing and using Tushy Wave as a first-time bidet owner (spoiler: you may never use dry toilet paper again).
Tushy Wave Non-Electric Bidet Seat — $189.00
Finish: 2 (bamboo or platinum) | Temperature settings: 1
Features and first impressions
The Tushy Wave is a non-electric bidet toilet seat. That means replacing (and upgrading) your toilet seat with a video attachment that attaches directly to your toilet water supply. This is a little more streamlined than Tushy’s other options, which require you to connect to an outlet or sink.
However, it doesn’t have the luxury features found on other seats, such as hot water spray or heated seats (see Tushy Ace). While it’s by no means bare-bones, it’s a simple and sleek design when it comes to bidets, and the price ($189) reflects that.
My first impression when I took the Wave out of the box was that it had a modern look, with the bidet mount being much more discreet than other products I’ve seen, with just one knob that sits snugly against the side of the seat. I was told that it was. I installed this seat in my ensuite master bathroom, but it’s also a comfortable addition to a guest bathroom because it doesn’t scream “Here’s a bidet!” (Not that there’s anything wrong with bidets, but personally, I don’t want them to be the main topic of conversation when people come over to my house.)
Then I realized that it didn’t come with a ton of equipment, just a small box with a tank adapter and hose, some bolts, brackets, and washers. This was a relief since, as my husband will attest, I’m not the most handy person in the house (I once tried to open a paint can with a steak knife, for example).
The Wave comes in white with the option of bamboo or platinum colored knobs. The toilet in my master bathroom is dark gray, so the toilet seat doesn’t exactly match, but I’m willing to sacrifice that extra beauty for functionality. The seat has a slow-closing lid and comes in elongated and rounded shapes. I chose the elongated shape and it fit my toilet perfectly (Tushy says the Wave fits 95 percent of toilets).
Installing Tushy Wave
According to Tushy’s site, it takes just eight minutes to install Wave, but this instructional video shows it’s totally possible. But that wasn’t the case for me. The video spends about 4 seconds on the steps of turning off the water and emptying the toilet tank, which confused me a bit since I’ve never done either of those things.
However, I like step-by-step visuals when putting things together, so I googled until I found this detailed installation video by Tushy. This was very helpful (and oddly calming with the classic elevator style music).
At the beginning of the video, it’s all about checking the compatibility of your toilet with Wave, which is actually very helpful before purchasing the product. Luckily, my toilet’s compatibility was A+, so I skipped ahead to the actual installation part.
To be honest, it took me about an hour from start to finish. But again, I was starting from scratch in terms of plumbing experience. They’re probably the last people your friends and family will call to help you with any kind of handyman job. Installing the toilet seat was easy, but I had a little trouble connecting the bidet to the toilet’s water supply. Mainly because my toilet is installed very close to the wall and I had to use my left hand to tighten and unscrew all the screws (I’m right handed).
PRO TIP (what you won’t see in the installation video): Scrub the toilet and bathroom floors thoroughly before you begin. During the installation process, you will be very close to the toilet, so it is important to start with a clean slate. I waited to install the Wave until right before my bi-monthly house cleaners came (I’m not boogie, I swear, because I know how difficult it is for two people to clean a house). It’s just one of those things I decided to outsource from time to time (my naughty toddlers were hell-bent on destroying anything in my wake).
Another pro tip: If you’re like me and watch installation videos on your phone while you work, place your phone somewhere safe and stable so it doesn’t accidentally slip into the toilet (yes , it was a close call) ).
My experience with Wave
Installation wasn’t the easiest job I’ve ever done, but the seat felt sturdy and the bidet function worked well once everything was in place. And I have to say, I’m a big fan.
The bidet’s DuoFlow nozzle allows you to easily switch between pre-wash and post-wash modes. This is something I wish I had had within the weeks and months after I gave birth to my child. Postpartum life would be a lot easier if I didn’t have to grab a peribottle every time I went to the bathroom (and simplifying self-care is the ultimate goal in a busy, draining life).
The water is not warm but not uncomfortable and the water pressure is enough to really clean the inside of the water. All in all, it’s much more efficient than using toilet paper.
I haven’t been using Wave long enough to see what effect it has on my overall toilet paper consumption, but it feels like it’s going to significantly reduce my spending in that area. My little heart that cares about the environment and the economy is happy. Who would have thought that a little old bidet could do that?
final thoughts
Finally, if you’re a first-time bidet user like me, and even if you’re not the most handy woman in the neighborhood, I recommend the Tushy Wave as a simple and elegant way to upgrade your bathroom endeavors. Masu. I encountered some issues during installation, but the payoff was well worth it. Its simple, modern design and effective functionality make it a seamless addition to any bathroom. I’ve already noticed how clean and refreshed it feels every time I use it. For anyone looking to give a bidet a try, the Tushy Wave strikes the perfect balance between familiarity and innovation. Your bathroom routine will never be the same.
