If your Holiday Barbie doll is still in the box, this is the review you’ve been waiting for. This took a lot of self-control, and I was impressed. You can also leave it there. There are more interesting living dolls currently walking around Los Angeles that we can keep an eye on.
On December 17th, Ariana Grande attended a luncheon to celebrate her first Golden Globe nomination at The Maybourne in Beverly Hills. For this event, she combined her recent Glinda-inspired style with the classic Ariana hairstyle to create a completely doll-like effect. Specifically, Holiday Barbie 2024 with a ponytail.
The gravity-defying act was the work of Grande’s go-to hairstylist, Alix Liu. He parted his blonde hair to the side and then pulled it back into a high ponytail (although it wasn’t as high as we’ve seen in the past). An updo is secured by wrapping a lot of hair around the base of the pony to achieve that classic, sophisticated look, and perhaps most importantly, the ends are flipped up, giving it a bouncy look. It is preserved in all its glamorous glory.
Holiday Barbie’s time in the spotlight was perhaps more pronounced last year thanks to the Barbie movies, but she will forever remain an icon. While discussing Birdie and her timeless style, hairstylist Sophie Rose Gutterman respectfully recommended a classic high ponytail like Grande’s.
“You can party all night and still look amazing with this playful yet powerful style,” she says, recommending purchasing ponytail extensions for extra oomph.
While Liu holds the secret to Grande’s own charm (wanna see what’s in that kit?), we have some hints about other aspects of her charm. We know REM Beauty is definitely going to be on the actor’s face, but makeup artist Michael Anthony also posted a range of Dior Beauty products on Instagram on the same day he did Luncheon makeup. . A fitting choice, as she wore a 1959 Dior dress by Yves Saint Laurent.
The whole look was dreamy, with big, fluffy eyelashes and pale eyeshadow, but the best part might have been her super glossy lips. If Anthony’s snaps are any indication, she used three shades of Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss (Holographic Shimmer, Pink Lilac, and Pink) to give her pout a super glossy look.
As it turns out, Grande was the perfect holiday Barbie. She was a character that I wouldn’t mind appearing in a Barbie movie sequel. But before that, we can get excited about the next Wicked…and whatever merchandise Mattel decides to release with it.
