Jonathan Bailey may have become a world-famous actor thanks to his breakout role in Bridgerton, but his reasons for not wanting kids just yet are not that different from the rest of us. It’s just because I’m too busy. Of course, “busy” is a relative term, but it’s safe to say that the recently released box office hit Wicked cast member has very little free time.
“Yes, it’s a huge honor for men,” he told British Vogue, noting that they don’t face the same pressure as women to have children. “But I can’t incorporate kids into my lifestyle right now.” Is it because he’s so busy? “Yes,” he said.
he continued. “I definitely want to attend. I’m reading a book about adoption. I might date a woman, but I think I’ll be dating a man.”
Bailey has been open about his sexuality since coming out publicly in 2018 (in the same interview, he told British Vogue that he first came out to friends and family about 15 years ago when he was in his early 20s). (He said he was out). At the time, “binary” felt like an “this or that” choice, he says, but now it’s more nuanced.
“I think other people figured out my sexuality before I realized it,” he continued. “I remember looking out the window at school and seeing girls in tutus. They were first, second and so on, and I just wanted to be in there.”
His acting career started on stage, but everything changed when he was cast as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in the TV show that took Netflix by storm in 2021. Since then, Bailey’s fame has skyrocketed. In the movie Wicked, he plays Prince Fiyero, Elphaba’s lover. He will star alongside Scarlett Johansson as Dr. Henry Loomis in the upcoming Jurassic Park remake, Jurassic Park Rebirth.
Johansson isn’t shy about praising Bailey. She recently attended the London premiere of Transformers One and happily spoke about her new co-star to Entertainment Tonight. “I really love everything about that person,” she said.
