The new year is upon us, and as we add to our 2025 wishlists, we’re looking to Paris, London, and New York for the best essentials money can buy. I’m not a stickler for a strict capsule wardrobe, but I like the idea of incorporating some new traditional pieces each season with a twist on the standard uniform. As the old saying goes, trends come and go, but basics are forever. (Wait, isn’t that an old saying?!)
When I think of elevated basics, I think of pieces that can easily power up my wardrobe in the same way that the full version of “All Too Well” cheers up Taylor Swift fans during the last 10 minutes of a hot Pilates class. It comes to mind. They are making a statement in the way they are.
Of course, I’m always excited when I find an item in the fashion set that I’ve already had my eye on. That’s because it strengthens your belief that you may actually be a little clairvoyant. That way, you’ll know you’re ready to take the next step. Read this intro to find out exactly what three basics fashionistas in Paris, London, and New York will be wearing in 2025.
London: Red Flats
Londoners don’t shy away from pops of color when it comes to their wardrobes. That’s why I predict we’ll be seeing a lot of red flats next year. These particular flats are mesh, which I find controversial and still love, but I’ve also found wild red ballerina flats and Mary Janes as well. Colorful shoes are one of the easiest ways to add interest to an outfit.

Paris: Chocolate brown wool coat
Synonymous with luxury, let the city dweller give you the decadence of a chocolate brown oversized coat. The rich hues are a welcome relief from the sea of black, tan, and gray outerwear we’re accustomed to this time of year.

New York: Black belt with gold hardware
You can’t help but spot this stunning Saint Laurent piece with gold square hardware in New York. The contrast of the gold buckle with the black makes it more special than regular silver. Not to mention, it’s one of those pieces that looks great with everything from a pencil skirt to your favorite pair of jeans.
