According to People, there has been no official statement from the palace as to why the two monarchs were absent from the concert. However, the paper notes that the king likely did not want to overshadow Middleton’s big day. Charles and Camilla also did not attend last year’s event. At the time, the King had a prior appointment at Highgrove Manor in Gloucestershire.

However, King Charles was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and continued to fulfill his royal duties while battling the disease. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla also suffered from a chest infection, which was later diagnosed as pneumonia. The Queen has continued to work during her illness, but has skipped over some recent events and taken a step back.
