As Christmas approaches, speculation continues to mount about who will be joining the British royal family’s holiday plans. Although Prince Andrew’s invitation status is still up in the air thanks to King Charles, there is one unexpected royal relative who may or may not be invited to this year’s celebrations.
Queen Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles revealed in an interview with Saga that he has not yet attended the Royal Christmas. “People often ask me what a Royal Christmas is like, but I’ve never actually been to one,” he continued, “I talked to my mother about it, and from what I gather it’s quite a traditional Christmas.” A decent sized Norfolk turkey with all the trimmings, mince pie and Christmas pud.
Parker Bowles has a few options this Christmas. A visit to King Charles and his mother is entirely conceivable, but he might just spend the day with his ex-girlfriend. “Since my divorce eight years ago, I have spent Christmas Day with my ex-wife (Sarah) and we still get along well,” he explained. “This year, for the first time, I don’t know where I will be. I could be with my mother or the King, or I could be at the local (pub) preparing vegetables before having a beer. If I were in charge of dinner… I like to push the boat out. ”
Camilla’s son also couldn’t help but talk about Charles and his love of food, but there was no mention of the king being a “food hero”. He goes on to say, “If you ask him about British artisan cheese or the number of apple varieties in Highgrove orchards, he knows his stuff. Back in the ’70s and ’80s, he said, The farming methods, the techniques, the seasonal ingredients, the commitment to organic, and everyone thought that was a little pretentious… Now that’s mainstream thinking, he was ahead of his time.”
Regardless of Parker Bowles’ attendance, this year’s royal Christmas will be different. The Daily Beast reported in October that Prince William and Duchess Kate are planning to hold a “rival Christmas party” at Anmer Hall at their Sandringham estate, with Duchess Kate’s family, including her parents Mike and Carol, in attendance.
