Like many of the defining beauty trends of 2024, “morning undressing” was born on TikTok, but it’s not without its problems. Users cover their bodies with serums, mouth tape, bonnets, sheet masks, curlers, etc. before going to bed at night, and in the morning they film themselves “shedding off” the various layers. Understandably, dermatologists have voiced concerns about the risks associated with the hashtag, with Dr. Purvisha Patel telling Vogue that it’s a skincare concern, especially when it contains active ingredients. He said it was a “recipe for disaster.” What should we leave behind for 2025?

That’s not to say that TikTok is all bad. Beauty fanatics have translated the “very modest, very mindful” guidelines from Jules LeBron’s “modest” clip into a look that feels clean and classic. Think a smear of blush, nude lips, almond-shaped nails, and shiny, flyaway hair. Insight. Trendy but timeless.
One product makeup
A key theme for 2024 is doing more with less time, energy and products (think the popularity of lip stains by the likes of Wonderskin). Makeup artist Emily Wood’s “scribble liner” technique (using only lip liner to contour the entire face) has been viewed more than 25 million times. “It’s just so easy, so accessible, so sustainable,” Wood told Vogue in October about the rise of one-product makeup.
